American Horror Story Adds New and Returning Cast Members for Season 9.

As is the case for every year of American Horror Story we’re always given casting news before knowing anything about the Season itself. While we don’t know a theme or anything at all about the plot we have been given a couple of announcements regarding the casting.

AHS favorite Emma Roberts will be returning to the cast to play the girlfriend of newcomer Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy. Series creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement via his Instagram page saying “That special moment when you realize you have an Olympic medal AND will be playing Emma Roberts’ boyfriend of American Horror Story Season9”.

Kenworthy is somewhat new to the acting game, only appearing in ABCs The Real O’Neals and briefly in Sharknado 5, neither of which I’d have the pleasure of watching so can’t really comment on his acting ability. Ryan Murphy surely must have seen something in his performance as an announcement like this on Instagram surely means quite a large role.

This will be Roberts fifth outing in AHS after having played witch Madison Montgomery in both Coven & Apocalypse, Maggie Esmerelda in Freak Show and Serina Belinda in Cult. Whilst we don’t know anything about her next character they do always tend to be quite similar as she plays bitchy quite well. I was surprised to hear Roberts name attached to American Horror Story as it was only earlier in the week that Murphy announced, again via Instagram, that he was trying to find ways in which he could revive Scream Queens to our screens. Roberts played the lead in that series but sadly it lost it’s way massively in its second Season, so I can completely understand why it was axed.

This is pretty much the only major casting news we have so far as previously Murphy has only teased that Cody Fern, Finn Wittrock, and Darren Criss could all be returning but as yet we don’t have any sort of official confirmation. It was also announced last month that Sarah Paulson would be not only playing the lead role but also directing Murphy’s other project Ratched, the prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, so it remains to be seen how involved Paulson will be in future AHS Seasons. Maybe the fact that Emma Roberts has been announced in this way means she may be taking the reigns as lead female?

Hopefully, we’ll have more casting news soon and some teases as to what we might expect from the next theme. What would you like to see as the next theme for AHS?
