This week, on The TV Obsessive Podcast Episode 59, Caemeron and Ryan delve into Lady in the Lake Episode 3, “I Was the First to See Her Dead. You Were the Last to See Her Alive.” (written by Briana Belser and directed by Alma Har’el). But first, in the news:
- It’s the opening day of the Olympics!
- Apple TV+ is making noises about producing less TV (boo!)
- Speaking of Apple TV+, Bad Monkey seems very Vince Vaughn
- Homicide: Life on the Street is coming to Peacock in August
- Judd Apatow is working on a Mel Brooks documentary for HBO
- Also, HBO has snagged the rights to The Southern Book Club Guide to Slaying Vampires (with Danny McBride & Edi Patterson to write and produce)
- WBD is losing NBA coverage to Amazon… or maybe not?
We talks about rumors that The Traitors Season 3 will come out in January. Caemeron recommends the adaptation of Time Bandits on Apple TV+ and Ryan plugs Presumed Innocent.

On Lady in the Lake Episode 3, “I Was the First to See Her Dead. You Were the Last to See Her Alive.”
Cleo is still alive after the assassination attempt in Episode 2 but is not doing well at all. Glimpses of her childhood show her father in debt to Shell Gordon which forced him to sell his trumpet. Cleo is also having strange visions about hopscotch, lambs, laundry, and ghosts. Her son continues to deteriorate from his sickle cell disease so Cleo and her mother call in the Prophet, who says he can do nothing for her, but maybe God can if Cleo donates to him and his church. While her husband performs his routine later that night, Cleo gets drunk and dances with strangers. Officer Platt confronts Cleo about the assassination attempt and says he knows she drove the car that night. Cleo gives him the information about the car and shooters after he offers to protect her. Reggie later confronts Cleo but admits that Shell does not know he sent Cleo to make the drop-off before the assassination attempt. Cleo offers a deal where they rig Shell’s gambling game and disappear, but he refuses.
Meanwhile, Maddie continues her rebellion against her background by getting her ears pierced and then shows up at the Baltimore Star asking Bob Bauer for a job. She says she will write, research, do background, whatever it takes, but Bob insults her and rejects her. Maddie continues her sexual relationship with Officer Platt, which one day causes her to miss picking up her son, Seth, from school. When the two meet, they fight at Maddie’s apartment and she admits to him that Milton is not his father. Seth still accepts him as his father and wants nothing to do with his mom. Soon after, Maddie gets a letter from accused killer Stephan, and she uses it as leverage to get a job at the Baltimore Star. Bob and Maddie learn from the ME that someone tried to rape Tessie, meaning there could have been someone else involved. The episode ends with Maddie agreeing to meet Stephan at his mental hospital…
