On Disclaimer V
No longer welcome at home, Catherine goes to her mother’s house to stay and admits the whole story of Jonathan to her mother while they sleep in the same bed. Stephen delivers copies of A Perfect Stranger to her office and tells her staff Catherine has been harassing him. Catherine’s staff confront her and she lashes out, striking one of her colleagues before storming out.
Robert meets Stephen for dinner and communicates how he feels that his wife’s actions are pitiful and unforgivable. He asks for forgiveness from Stephen for any role he or Nicholas plays in the story. Stephen placates him, but really just wants to put Robert in conflict with Catherine.
Meanwhile, Nicholas begins spiraling with his drug use and makes a social media connection with the fake “Jonathan” account that Stephen set up. Stephen reels in Nicholas and the two of them begin chatting through direct messages. Stephen eventually reveals who Jonathan is and that Nicholas’ mother was the cause of his death in Italy. Stephen sends Nicholas the intimate photos of his mother, calling her a whore who never loved him. This sends Nicholas even deeper into drugs and he passes out as the episode ends.
- Shift in structure of the narrative
- Is Stephen worse than Catherine?
- Nicholas isn’t doing so good
