On Silo S2E4, “The Harmonium”
This episode was written by Sal Calleros, and directed by Aric Avelino. Silo is taken from a series of short stories by Hugh Howey.
In Silo 17, Solo wants to talk about the circus and all the animals and trapeze artists, but Juliette is a stick in the mud and just wants to build something that will help her breathe underwater. Solo eventually helps out by showing her the harmonium and recommending the tubing within it.
Juliette gets her breathing apparatus built and is successful in diving down and finding an old firefighter suit. The realization that going outside is one step closer freaks Solo out and he runs and locks himself back inside the vault. Empathizing with him about their shared fear and the promise she wants to hear more about elephants gets Solo to reemerge.
In Silo 18, Knox and Shirley figure out that Mechanical has always been the scapegoat when rebellions arise. They realize Mechanical and Judicial need a pact of their own, so the two recruit Walker and Carla to accompany them up many levels of the silo to meet with Judge Meadows.
Bernard doesn’t like this idea, and Sims starts to plant the seeds of impeachment (behind Bernard’s back), all while Meadows meets with Lukas Kyle to have a quick, private conversation about the vastness of our universe.
Bernard never planned on letting Meadows go out and she finds that out after Bernard admits he poisoned her dinner and she will be dead within minutes. After she passes, Sims comes in to cover it up.
When the Mechanical crew reach Judicial, they are denied entry so they play one of the cards up their sleeve, turning off the power to the silo. When they are allowed access, all they find in Meadows’ office is a judge with a knife through her heart. Realizing they have been set up, they flee the upper levels back to the Down Deep, but Sims convinces the crowd that mob justice is the right next step, so the crowd sets off to find Knox, Shirley, Walker, and Carla.
