On Severance Season 2 Episode 7, “Chikhai Bardo”
Episode 7 is written by Dan Erickson & Mark Friedman and is directed by Jessica Lee Gagné
In flashbacks, Mark and Gemma meet at a Lumon blood drive at their university. They eventually get married but have trouble producing children, so they go to a Lumon fertility clinic. Shortly after this visit, Gemma goes to a party by herself, where she “dies” in an accident, and the police come to report it to Mark.
Some time after her “death,” Gemma lives on the testing floor at Lumon. She regularly is forced to visit a series of rooms that have the same names as Lumon MDR files. Each of those rooms uncovers a different innie where Gemma has to deal with traumatic or emotional experiences. Dr. Mauer and Mr. Drummond oversee this and frequently interview her about the experiences.
Gemma attempts to break out by knocking out Dr. Mauer, but as she goes up the elevator, she arrives on the severed floor and turns into Ms. Casey. Mr. Milchick demands she go back on the elevator.
Mark remains unconscious after his surgery. Dr. Reghabi tells Devon he is OK, but Devon wants to call Ms. Cobel for help. Reghabi rejects that idea and leaves. Mark wakes up shortly after, either remembering or dreaming of Gemma.
