On Pluribus S1E7, “The Gap”
Created by Vince Gilligan, written by Jenn Carroll, directed by Adam Bernstein
Carol returns to Albuquerque after her trip to Las Vegas and continues to use the Others’ desire to please her to get anything she wants, including gas, ice-cold Gatorade, and fancy meals out at restaurants. But after more than a month in isolation, she becomes depressed.
She almost lets herself be killed by a giant firework, and can not find happiness in anything available to her anymore. She eventually paints “Come Back” in her cul-de-sac, which prompts Zosia to return. Carol breaks down in tears and embraces her.
In South America, Manousos begins the long trip from Paraguay to New Mexico, but refuses any help from the Others, and leaves money for anyone from whom he takes gas or supplies. When he reaches the Darién Gap, he is warned by the Others not to go in because it is too treacherous.
They offer to take him to New Mexico and bring his car as well, but he burns the car so they can’t use it and sets off into the Gap. Not long after, he is impaled by the chunga palm tree, receiving several wounds. He tries to help them himself, but becomes too weak and collapses. The Others drop in from a helicopter to get him to safety.
- Carol’s isolation
