On Hijack Season 1
Created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith
Season 1 of Hijack follows the flight of Kingdom Airlines KA29 from Dubai to London after it is seized by five hijackers. It focuses on Sam Nelson (Idris Elba), a corporate negotiator who uses his psychological and deal-making abilities to minimize violence and work against the criminals.
The takeover begins when the hijackers, led by Stuart, force their way into the cockpit by threatening the pilot’s mistress. On the ground, the British government learns the incident is orchestrated by Cheapside Firm, a crime organization. Their primary demand appears to be the release of two imprisoned leaders.
As the flight progresses, another financial motive is revealed, known as a “bear raid.” The organization leaked news of the hijacking to crash Kingdom Airlines’ stock, betting against the shares to short it and make billions.
In a twist, a passenger named Amanda—a former naval consultant—reveals herself as a sleeper agent for the organization. After the firm threatens her daughter’s life, she shoots the pilot and barricades herself in the cockpit to threaten to crash the plane into central London.
Sam manages to persuade the remaining hijackers to stand down and eventually gains Amanda’s trust by appealing to her love for her daughter. With fuel running out and the Royal Air Force prepared to shoot down the plane, Sam and Amanda work with Air Traffic Control to execute an emergency landing on a small runway.
After the passengers evacuate, Sam returns to the cabin to retrieve a gift for his estranged wife and is confronted by Stuart, who has escaped his handcuffs. Sam outwits him by using a ringing phone as a decoy, leading to Stuart’s arrest by armed response teams.
