Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen centers on the upcoming wedding of Rachel Harkin and Nicky Cunningham and the unsettling things that happen in the week before their marriage.

At the Cunninghams’ remote family cabin, Rachel learns about a “soulmate curse” affecting her bloodline that has been passed down for 200 years. According to the legend, every descendant must marry their true soulmate by sundown on their wedding day or face a gruesome, bloody death.

Over the week, the tension builds as Rachel meets some of the disturbing members of Nicky’s family, and as she uncovers the dark history of her family. Nicky’s brother, Jules, witnessed her mother’s violent death and believes in the curse, but Nicky and her sister Portia remain skeptical and are just trying to make their mom happy after they learn about her incurable brain tumor.

The finale culminates when Nicky backs out of the wedding, and the sun sets without a completed ceremony. Because the wedding fails to happen in time, the curse transfers to the Cunningham family, causing many of the family guests to bleed out at the party because they aren’t married to their soulmates.

In an attempt to save his family, Nicky forces the vows, but Rachel—having lost her faith in their connection—is no longer his soulmate. She dies a bloody death, only to be resurrected the next morning as the new immortal Witness.

The series concludes with Rachel driving away in the original Witness’s truck, now cursed with the task of watching over future generations and warning them to be extremely careful about whom they choose to love and marry.
