Mayor Tom Loftis is feeling good as more and more tourists arrive in Widow’s Bay after the review in the New York Times. He even meets a tourist named Marissa who says she is in town as part of a bachelorette party.

Tom is also interested in his staff promoting the upcoming Cocktails at Sunset and Inaugural Swim, the tradition where the mayor swims in the ocean to officially kick off summer. The night before all the festivities begin, however, Tom spots an old lady who runs at his car and scratches his arm.

Dr. Morgan warns Tom not to go on the inaugural swim with the injury, but he pushes forward anyway despite what his staff says. Rosemary tells him about the sea hag and the lore that she will start tracking you if she scratches some of your skin.

During the swim, Tom sees the old lady again, and she scratches him while he is under the water. Wanting to know what’s going on, Tom goes to Wyck for help. Wyck tells him to hide in a chest for 72 hours because all the sea hag wants is to find Tom and kill him.

After Tom meets with Marissa that night, the old lady attacks him at his house. But just when she is about to smother and kill Tom, Wyck pops in and shoots her.

At the same time, the church bells ring, and the police radio starts going wild, saying that there is some kind of major problem at the Cocktails at Sunset party.

On The Bear, “Gary”

In a prequel episode that takes place before Season 1, Richie and Mikey are asked by Jimmy to take a sealed box to Gary, Indiana, in exchange for payment. The two go on a one-day road trip together, and more of their complicated relationship is revealed, with the two seeming to have a falling out at the end.

This episode provides context for the man Mikey was before his suicide, and for Richie’s character and where he is mentally when we meet him in Season 1.

Next Time on The TV Obsessive Podcast…

We continue our coverage of Widow’s Bay with a look at Episode 4.
