This week on Episode 15 of the TV Obsessive Podcast, Caemeron and Ryan begin carving out their respective Mount Rushmores of TV episodes with Ryan’s first selection: Lost, “Exodus.” But first, in the news:
- The WGA and AMPTP have reached a tentative deal to end the strike, pending ratification, etc.
- SAG-AFTRA remains on strike, now also in relation to the videogame industry
- Amazon intends to put ads on Prime
- Moonlighting is coming to Hulu on October 10
- The Curse, with Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone, is set to premiere on November 10
- We still love Winning Time, but apparently Magic Johnson didn’t think it was worth watching… at all
On the Season 1 finale of Lost: “Exodus”
We talk about our histories with Lost, watching it as it aired and then again later. Digging into the episode at hand, we discuss the major plotlines involving the Others, the attempt to escape the Island on a raft, Rousseau stealing Claire’s baby, Walt, and the ultimate opening of the hatch to end the first season of the show. Along the way we hit on the emotional scenes between Jack and Sawyer, Sun and Jin, etc., and reflect on how the stuff with Arzt functions on a meta level (or two!).
We also hit on the sentimentality of the show, the power of its character drama, and talk about how the music serves the series. Caemeron offers a couple of other possible favorite Lost episodes.
Next Time on The TV Obsessive Podcast:
We kick off Caemeron’s standout episode selections with Mad Men S4E7, “The Suitcase.”
