This week, on Episode 23 of The TV Obsessive Podcast, Caemeron and Ryan dig into the Season 5 premiere of Fargo, discussing S5E1 & S5E2 of the Noah Hawley show from FX. But first, in the news:

We’re both watching The Curse, and enjoying how Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone can freely promote the show now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over. Caemeron’s on A Murder at the End of the World. Ryan enjoyed the premiere of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Neither of us enjoyed the 1998 Godzilla starring Matthew Broderick. Hard Knocks in-season episodes are set to begin, focusing on the Miami Dolphins, and we’re both stoked to see Mike McDaniel behind the scenes. Primetime!
On Fargo S5E1 & S5E2
Precocious housewife Dot tasers a police officer at a school board meeting in Scandia, Minnesota. She is fingerprinted and put in jail but released the next morning. At home, two masked men attack her and kidnap her. The kidnappers’ van is pulled over in North Dakota and the kidnappers kill one trooper and injure another while Dot escapes to a gas station. Dot saves the officer, Witt, kills one kidnapper, and returns home. She tells her husband Wayne that nothing happened and she went out alone to clear her head.
Wayne’s overbearing and rich mother, Lorraine, doesn’t believe her and seeks the truth because she thinks Dot may be trying to steal the family fortune.
Meanwhile, we learn Sheriff Roy Tillman (a MAGAish misogynist) and his loyal son Gator are the ones trying to track down Dot because Roy used to be married to her. There is something in Dot’s past that gives her “a special set of skills” and she is determined to defend her home and her family, while both Roy and Lorraine are on the hunt for what’s going on.
