Welcome to our podcast coverage of True Detective: Night Country! For the first episode, we’re forgoing our usual news and notes segment, as we’re doubling up a bit on our schedule. Check out Episode 30 for this week’s edition of that segment, and/or Episode 32 (which will release on Tuesday) for next week’s edition. That episode will also cover the finale of Fargo Season 5, and then we’ll be shifting to a Sunday night release of the podcast for the remainder of this season of True Detective.

On True Detective: Night Country Part 1

Eight men mysteriously disappear from a remote research station after the long night sets in over Ennis, Alaska in December.

Chief Liz Danvers leads the investigation into the disappearances while dealing with local trouble, family drama, and a town with a dark past all at the same time.

State Trooper Evangeline Navarro is interested in the case because it might help her solve a six-year-old cold case of a murdered Native woman that has weighed on her for years. Danvers and Navarro have apparently had a falling out over the case and after not seeing eye to eye in the past, Danvers requested she leave the police department for the state troopers.

Local resident Rose Aguineau and the spirit of her dead husband help locate the bodies of the researchers, who are frozen and buried in the Alaskan tundra.
