On Winning Time Season 2 Episode 5
Magic Johnson’s trade demand is causing tension between the team and Lakers’ management. After Jerry Buss consults with Magic and the management team, the decision is made to fire Paul Westhead and install a messy situation with Jerry West and Pat Riley as co-coaches. West really wants no part of coaching and the players consider Riley a friend more than a coach. After the Riley Showtime persona emerges, the Lakers finish 1981-1982 with the best record in the West, setting up a rematch with the Philadelphia 76ers, who beat the Celtics (best NBA record).
